The role of the Teaching Artists:

Sistema Cyprus is looking for a passionate Violin Teaching Artist for Nicosia and a passionate Clarinet Teaching Artist for Larnaca. The Teaching Artists will have to teach our young students and be able to match our ambition with experience, drive and commitment, and play a significant role in developing holistic and transformational changes for our communities involved.

Job Description:

  • Comprehend and follow the mission of social inclusion and take the necessary actions for the group to work as a community, no matter their background and level of musical knowledge.
  • Plan and implement curriculum in collaboration with the Artistic Director, as for example what musical aspects should be taught each semester and how the students should be prepared in each of the musical pieces of the selected repertoire.
  • Plan efficient lessons that include technique study, repertoire study, music theory, rehearsal and performance etiquette.
  • Attend all team meetings.
  • Attend all Sistema Cyprus’s concerts, performances, as well as conferences, courses, masterclasses, and events proposed by the Executive Director.
  • Support the orchestra and sectionals when necessary
  • Continually researching emerging pedagogical practice that is beneficial for the development of the programme.
  • Get the chance to attend professional training and seminars both in Cyprus and abroad.

Qualifications, knowledge, experience and interests:

  • Degree in Music OR Music Performance in Violin, Clarinet
  • Master’s degree in Music OR Music Performance in Violin, Clarinet would be considered an asset
  • Professional standard of instrumental playing
  • Understanding of the benefits that a social programme such as Sistema Cyprus has to offer children, young people and society in general.
  • Experience in (or knowledge of) El Sistema methodology would be considered an asset
  • Extensive experience working with children in a music education and / or social music context
  • Interest in using music as a tool for social development
  • Interest and ability to be a motivational mentor and role model for students and parents.

Sistema Cyprus is a social-music orchestra programme established in 2017. Sistema Cyprus offers music education to the children and young people of Cyprus, including migrants, refugees and children and young people with fewer opportunities, and ensures that these groups are respected, recognised, and included in the society. Currently, Sistema Cyprus engages more than 250 children and young people in orchestra practice and community music activities. Sistema Cyprus offers free symphonic music education focused on the personal development of its participants focusing primarily on empowerment and reaching their full potential.
