Call for Collaboration: Teaching Artist – Lower Strings (Double Bass / Cello)

Location: Nicosia Nucleo

Collaboration Type: Service Agreement (hourly remuneration)

Commitment: Teaching hours to be agreed based on programme needs and student enrolment.

Start date: September 2026

Role Overview

Sistema Cyprus is seeking one or two Teaching Artists in Lower Strings (Double Bass and/or Cello) to join our team in Nicosia and support the development of our string programme.

The ideal collaborator is passionate about music education and believes in the power of music to empower and connect young people from diverse backgrounds.

Candidates may specialize in double bass, cello, or both instruments. Depending on the profiles of the selected candidates, responsibilities may be distributed between one or two collaborators.

Particular interest will be given to candidates with strong double bass expertise, as this instrument is a priority within the programme.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging group and individual lessons for lower string students (double bass and/or cello)
  • Prepare advanced double bass students for entry into conservatories or higher music education institutions (for candidates with double bass expertise)
  • Support ensemble rehearsals and string sectionals as required
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director on lesson planning and repertoire
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings (paid hours)
  • Stay informed about effective and innovative music pedagogy

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Music Performance (Double Bass or Cello)
  • Experience teaching music to children and/or young people
  • Commitment to the values and mission of music-for-social-impact programmes

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience preparing students for conservatory or university entry (relevant for applicants specializing in double bass)
  • Interest in community music practices and socially inclusive music education
  • Familiarity with El Sistema-inspired pedagogy
  • Experience supporting young people with varied educational, social, or emotional needs

Phase 1 – Pre-Selection
